Welcome to MIT College
It may be recalled that education in particular women’s education was at the lowest ebb. In India for the past several centuries till about the middle of nineteen century. At that time some prominent person’s including the great son of India, Maharishi Dayanand pioneered the movement towards women’s education.
However the garwhal region was still quite backward and women’s education was not acceptable in the society in1902, when fired by Maharishi’s ideas smt Mahadevi Ji established Kanya Patshala for educating girls. She was born in 1870’s and was herself well educated from her time and was well aware of the advantages of education for emancipation of women.
She met with a lot of resistance and started with just six students, two of whom were from her own family. Her dedication brought greater response and soon number of students on rolls began to increase. Smt Mahadevi Ji, taught, managed and nurtured the institution through the early difficult years till her death in 1914.
